Matthew’s extended family includes aunts and uncles, including Marshale Holland (James) of Louisville, Jonathan Thurman of Lexington, Cindy Bean, and Gina Penny of Lawrenceburg, as well as many cousins who all hold his memory dear. His close-knit group of friends, such as Marcy Hall, Missy Hall, and Samuel Thompson, also mourn his passing deeply.

Matthew was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Johnny Lewis Thurman, Sr., and his aunt, Lori Penny.
