Susan Rourke New Brunswick Death and Obituary – It is with heavy hearts that we report the passing of Susan Elaine Rourke, a dedicated educator and cherished member of the Hampton community. Susan, born on November 13th, 1963, in Saint John to Leo and the late Audrey (Clark) Collings, left a profound impact on the lives of all who knew her. She was not only a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend, but also a respected educator whose legacy will live on in the hearts of her students and colleagues alike.
Susan’s family was central to her life. She is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Brent Rourke, and their two sons, Thomas (married to Colleen) and Benjamin (married to Kaitlin). Susan’s family grew with the addition of her grandchildren, Isla Elaine (named after Susan) and Alden, as well as Alice Mae, bringing even more joy to her life. Susan’s father, Leo Collings, along with her siblings Kathie Rodger (John), Trudy Melvin (Bob), Louise McCarville (Gary), Maura Butko, James Collings, Peter Collings (Coleen), and Elizabeth Collings, remain to honor her memory. She was also survived by her extended family, including her in-laws, nieces, and nephews, all of whom she held dear.
Throughout her 34-year career in education, Susan touched countless lives in the Hampton school district. She began her teaching career at the middle school level, later transitioning to high school. Her passion for education and helping students reach their full potential was evident in every aspect of her work. Over the years, Susan served as the head of the resource department, offering invaluable support to both students and staff members alike. Her role was integral in shaping the educational experience for many, and she was known for her kindness, patience, and unwavering commitment to the well-being of her students.
Beyond her professional work, Susan was a true caregiver and confidante to those around her. She formed lifelong friendships with colleagues and staff members, and her nurturing spirit extended far beyond the classroom. She made it her mission to ensure that every student and staff member felt valued, supported, and cared for, leaving a lasting impact on the school community.
Susan’s devotion to her students and colleagues was not confined to the classroom. Her generosity and kindness were felt in every corner of her life, whether it was through her interactions with family and friends or her dedication to her community. She had a unique ability to make people feel seen, heard, and important, and this quality endeared her to all who were fortunate enough to know her.
In honor of her legacy, a celebration of Susan’s life will be planned at a later date. Her family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a charity of choice in her memory, reflecting Susan’s deep care for others and her commitment to making the world a better place.
