Boating Accident on Lake LBJ Claims Life in Highland Haven – HIGHLAND HAVEN, TX – A devastating boating accident on Lake LBJ in the Highland Haven area on Saturday afternoon has left one individual dead and has shaken the local community. The tragic incident occurred near Chaparral Drive, prompting an immediate and coordinated response from multiple emergency agencies.
According to preliminary reports, the Burnet County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), and Granite Shoals Fire Rescue and EMS (GSFR-EMS) were called to the scene after a distress call reported a boating accident involving two individuals who were still in the water. Initial information indicated that the victims, a husband and wife, were involved in the incident. Tragically, one of them had been struck by the boat’s propeller, sustaining catastrophic injuries.
Emergency responders quickly mobilized to the area. The Granite Shoals Police Department (GSPD) readied their patrol boat for assistance, and AirEvac 49 was dispatched to the scene to provide medical support. Upon arrival, emergency teams located the female victim, who was suffering from significant injuries caused by the propeller. She was immediately brought to shore, where responders worked urgently to stabilize her condition.
Once on land, emergency personnel applied a tourniquet and began administering CPR in an attempt to revive the victim. Despite the best efforts of first responders, including advanced lifesaving interventions and compressions, the woman succumbed to her injuries. AirEvac was ultimately called off, and the GSPD’s patrol boat was stood down as well.
The Justice of the Peace (JP) was notified to oversee the required post-incident process. At this time, authorities have refrained from releasing the identities of the individuals involved, as they await confirmation and notification of next of kin.
