Two Men Killed in Separate Vehicle and ATV Crashes in Calcasieu Parish, CPSO Reports

Two Men Killed in Separate Vehicle and ATV Crashes in Calcasieu Parish, CPSO Reports – The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office (CPSO) is investigating two unrelated fatal crashes that occurred on Saturday, October 25, claiming the lives of two men in separate incidents in DeQuincy and Sulphur. Authorities say both crashes remain under investigation as deputies work to determine contributing factors.

In the early morning hours, CPSO deputies responded to reports of a single-vehicle crash on Big Woods Starks Road near Creek Road. Upon arrival, investigators found that a pickup truck traveling southbound had veered off the roadway for unknown reasons. According to the preliminary investigation, the driver, Louis Pool, 48, of DeQuincy, attempted to correct the vehicle’s path but overcorrected, causing the truck to roll and exit the roadway on the opposite side.

Tragically, Pool, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was partially ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel. Deputies say that while the cause of the crash remains unclear, factors such as speed or driver impairment will be examined as part of the ongoing investigation.

Later that evening, just before 11:00 p.m., CPSO deputies were dispatched to another serious crash—this time involving an ATV (side-by-side)—on W. Dave Dugas Road near Choupique Road in Sulphur. The preliminary report indicates the ATV was traveling along the roadway when the driver attempted to make a turn. For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle rolled over, ejecting both the driver and passenger.

The driver, Randall Ravia, 37, of Sulphur, was transported to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The passenger suffered serious injuries and was first taken to a local hospital before being transferred to an out-of-town medical facility, where they remain in critical but stable condition.

Investigators are continuing to review evidence from the crash scene, including possible speed and mechanical factors that could have contributed to the rollover. As required by Louisiana state law, toxicology testing will be conducted on both deceased drivers to determine whether impairment played a role.

CPSO officials extended their condolences to the families affected by both tragic incidents, urging drivers and ATV operators to exercise caution, always wear seatbelts and safety restraints, and avoid operating vehicles under the influence.

Authorities remind the public that both investigations remain active and that further details will be released once available.
